The Oppo has recently announced the signing of an official bilateral patent license agreement with Verifone, a leading company offering innovative payment technologies on a global scale. Verifone is dedicated to providing safe and reliable payment technology for banks and merchants in all parts of the world through offering its customers payment terminal hardware and software, among others.
License agreement for improved connectivity
According to the terms of this particular agreement, Oppo will be granting its patent rights to use SEPs (Standard Essential Patents) of cellular communication in Verifone POS (Point of Sale) payment devices. This strategic move is targeted at improving customer experience in Verifone’s network of terminals using advanced communication technology standards owned by Oppo.
Expanding IP portfolio of Oppo
This cooperation between Oppo and Verifone can be viewed as an important step in the overall patent licensing strategy of Oppo. This is the fourth licensing agreement that has been publicly disclosed by Oppo since June 2025 after Oppo managed to conclude similar deals with companies in the automotive industry (Volkswagen, Audi, and a Chinese automobile company).
In this way, Oppo increases its patent portfolio not only in consumer electronics but also in such industries as automotive and payments, thus becoming one of the main contributors to global communication SEPs. In today’s industry environment, it becomes crucially important for non-mobile hardware to have advanced connectivity standards.
